This Agent is supported on the following platform: HP-UX 11.0 / 11i The Agent software kit consists of two programs, "VV" and "VVAgent". VVAgent is the (daemon) agent program, while VV is a command line program used to perform such tasks as backup, restore, re-synch and other requests. --------------------------------------------------------------- 1.1 Release History and Changes for Agent version 5.00 December 28th, 2004 - First release for version 5.00.1681 _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 2 FEATURES 2.1 Encrypted communication between CentralControl and Agents All communication between the CentralControl and the Agents is now encrypted with the AES encryption algorithm with a cipher strength of 128 bits. This encryption runs silently. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 Backup options can now be configured for different compression schemes: None, Minimum, Normal, Better, or Maximum. These choices allow the user to optimize the volume of data sent against the speed of transmission. _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 3 FIXES n/a _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 4 KNOWN ISSUES 4.1 The restored file attributes, last modification time, and last change time do not restore correctly. They are getting set one hour later than when they were modified. For example instead of 14:38 the time gets set as 15:38. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2 For a backup or restore task on a NFS system to succeed you need to have proper permissions to read, write, and create files and directories on the mounted Network File System. This includes the remote system allowing operations for an anonymous user. A good test is to try it from the command line first. If you cannot read/write/create files and directories on NFS manually, then the backup and restore also will not work. This issue applies to all Unix platforms. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3 If you are upgrading to 5.x and the upgrade is not successful, the install process will roll everything back to the pre-install state. However, the Agent does not automatically start up again. You can start it manually. In the event of an upgrade failure, the log file will be found under a directory called: .UpgradeFailure. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4 A Linux NFS mounted filesystem will terminate or indicate errors in the log if a backup open files option is not selected. To mount an NFS mount from a Linux server onto HP-UX you need to ensure your /etc/exports has the NFS export specified with "insecure" and "insecure_locks" options. For example: / *(rw,no_root_squash,sync,insecure,insecure_locks) If you don't have these options set on your NFS export, HP-UX is unable to get locks on files in that NFS mount. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4.5 HP-UX Agent may fail backups with O/S error of too many open files, or error messages logging the inability to open the synch.dat or to write to the temporary catalog files. This appears to be configuration related when running multiple tasks simultaneously (not enough shared memory). WORKAROUND: Increase the SHMMAX value (shared memory) found in /etc/conf/master.d/core-hpux. Check the current value of SHMMAX by enter the following command: grep SHMMAX /etc/master (The value is bytes) If there is no value in this file, you are using the default value of 64 MB. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4.6 After upgrading the Unix agent from versions 3.x, 4.x, to 5.x the DTX files are deleted. WORKAROUND: Run another backup of that task and then the DTX files will be recreated. INDEMNIFICATION. Licensor will defend at its own expense any action against Licensee brought by a third party to the extent that the action is based upon a claim that the Licensed Software infringes any U.S. copyrights or misappropriates any trade secrets recognized as such under the Uniform Trade Secret law, and Licensor will pay those costs and damages finally awarded against Licensee in any such action that are specifically attributable to such claim or those costs and damages agreed to in a monetary settlement of such action. The foregoing obligations are conditioned on Licensee notifying Licensor promptly in writing of such action, Licensee giving Licensor sole control of the defense thereof and any related settlement negotiations, and Licensee cooperating and, at Licensor's request and expense, assisting in such defense. 9. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. Subject to paragraph 8, the licensor, nor any authorized Vault Service Provider of the Software, will not be liable for any damages including any loss of data, profits or savings, claims against Licensee by any other party or any other incidental or consequential damages arising out of Licensee's use of, or inability to use the software, even if the licensor (or such Dealer) is advised of the possibility of such damage. Subject to paragraph 8 above, the Licensee agrees that the licensor's (or such Dealer's) liability under this License shall not exceed the License fees paid by the Licensee for the software licensed hereunder. 10.
