The main function of the Cluster Support Plug-in is for the Agent on a MS SQL or MS Exchange Server, which has a virtual IP address in the cluster, to be able to follow the server when it fails over to another node in a cluster. The Agent can still access its configuration (on a shared drive), and scheduled backups will occur as usual, without it looking like a "different" backup and causing a reseed. The Cluster Support Plug-In is supported on Windows Agents. It requires a separate license. --------------------------------------------------------------- 1.1 Release History and Changes for version 5.30 May 19th, 2005 - First release - version 5.30.1827 (beta) June 20th, 2005 - Second release - version 5.30.1844 (beta) July 27th, 2005 - Third release - version 5.30.1873 October 11th, 2005 - Fourth release - version 5.31.1903 _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 2 FEATURES 2.1 A user can connect to an Agent (with a Plug-In and proper license) on a Virtual Server or Local machine (a node) via IP or name. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 The Virtual Server Agent can backup virtual server shared data without re-seeding, or in case of a failover. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2.3 Once created, tasks (on a shared drive belonging to a virtual server) can be used by all Agents on the cluster. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2.4 Scheduling of virtual server backups is handled between node Agents without schedule overlapping. The configuration files are located on the drive owned by the virtual server. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2.5 Each physical node in a cluster configuration requires a separate installation of the Agent, each with a separate plug-in and license. You also need to enter the licenses of the Plug-Ins on the virtual server as well. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2.6 When you first configure an Agent on a Virtual Server, you will be prompted for a location on a drive that the Virtual Servers see. So, after a failover, the Agent configuration will still be available to all servers owned by the virtual server. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2.7 The icons representing the servers in the CentralControl are different, to represent a “regular” local Agent, and a Virtual Server Agent. (See the Windows Agent User Guide.) _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 3 FIXES 3.1 DTS#5449 Unable to create clustered agent on server with a logical disk resource (e.g. "IBM ServeRAID Logical Disk). A registry key can now be changed. Please contact support for assistance. _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 4 KNOWN ISSUES 4.1 Note you must create the backup task from the Virtual Node in order to use the Cluster Plug-In failover features even though you can perform backups from the Virtual Node as well as the Physical Node. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2 This release has been tested with SQL Server and MS Exchange (DR and MAPI) only, on a 2 node cluster. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3 Once the folder for configuration files on the shared disk has been created, the first time, you will not be prompted again for its location. _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 5 INSTALLATION NOTES 5.1 Installation Requirements See the appropriate Windows Agent User Guide and Release Note. --------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2 Installation Setup/Recommendations 1. Install the Agents and Plug-Ins on the Physical Nodes. 2. Set Cluster, SQL, and Exchange Plug-Ins on the Physical Nodes. 3. Create a New Agent for your Exchange or SQL cluster on the Virtual Node using the IP address or Hostname. 4. From the newly created agent, double click the Global file to open the "Virtual server shared area" window. From here you must select a drive letter for your SQL or Exchange Cluster. Click OK. This will launch the Agent Configuration Window. 5. Here you must specify all of your Vault connection information. Click OK when complete. --------------------------------------------------------------- 5.3 Conditional Requirements The Cluster Support Plug-In requires a valid Software License. --------------------------------------------------------------- 5.4 Install Procedure / See 5.2 above. The Plug-In is installed as part of the Windows Agent. _______________________________________________________________ =============================================================== 6 PRODUCT SUPPORT 6.1 Technical Support Complete contact information for your provider is available under the Help Support menu, in the CentralControl (Agent Console). --------------------------------------------------------------- 6.2 Product Updates Product updates are available from your provider's web site. --------------------------------------------------------------- 6.3 Documentation The documentation available for the Cluster Support Plug-In is included in the Windows Agent User's Guide and this Release Note.
