Migration Frequently Asked Questions |
EasyStreet is pleased to introduce you to our new unix hosting platform.
Your content has been moved for you and has been tested by us. On the day you get your account information, we need you to test and approve that all content was moved and is behaving correctly. Just follow the following steps:
You will need to preview your site and test that all things are working. Please see the instructions on how to view your site before DNS has been setup.
If you find any problems, please have your web developer notify us using the procedure below.
Once you approve content on the new location, if EasyStreet does DNS for your site you will forward your account information to hostmaster@easystreet.com and let us know that we can point your domain name at the new hosting space. If we don't hear from you by the end of the week, we will automatically re-point DNS at that time.
EasyStreet will automatically remove your previous hosting space and all files 48 hours after DNS points to the new space.
If EasyStreet does not handle your DNS you will receive instructions with what your techncial contact should change.
Before making changes to the site, your web developer(s) should download a copy of the site from the new location. During the migration we will have changed minor technical details on some of your files, such as:
If you find problems while testing your site, we need to hear about them right away. Please have your developer follow the instructions for how to obtain hosting support and include as much detail as possible about the problem.
Redundant, clustered, servers: There isn't just one web server serving up your web pages. You have a cluster of web servers all serving up your content, so if one server needs maintenance or rebooting, your web site won't be affected.
PHP/Perl/CGI: See more details in our developer details and CGI information.
No more surprises about file storages or bandwidth overages: Just by logging into your WebSiteOS you can quickly see how much storage and bandwith you are using.
Log files: You now have more choice about how often your log files are rotated, with daily, weekly or monthly rotation options. You can also turn them off completely. Log files are updated within about 15 minutes of someone visiting your site, so you can quickly and immediately see trends.
Web Stats: Your web statistics can be analyzed by Webalizer. All you have to do is define the report.
File Manager: For those times when you just need to make a quick change to a file and don't want to bother opening your editor and ftp program, you can just log in to your WebSiteOS control panel and use File Manager to edit that file.
Other options to manage your site vary by account type: See how to manage your site for details.
MySQL: If you previously had installed your own instance of MySQL, your databases have been migrated into our shared MySQL server and you will have received in your account information your new database username and password. Your database names will have changed also. There is a MySQL control panel for managing password for your MySQL user and for adding new databases (up to two).
Please check your programs that connect to your databases to ensure they are functioning properly.
EasyStreet will automatically remove that hosting space and all files 48 hours after DNS points to the new space.
The directory you put web content or PHP scripts into is public. All of your siteweb files have moved to public. CGI/Perl scripts should go into cgi-bin, but if you had them running in other directories we will override the default settings so your scripts will continue to run in public.
Also see our documentation on site structure and how to upload your files with FTP.
Give us a call at 503-968-3279 and we can help you change your settings in Dreamweaver.
FrontPage support has been discontinued on our Unix hosting accounts. If you need FrontPage support, see your account manager to get a Windows hosting account.
See our instructions on calculating bandwith and storage. You also might want to view the Advanced options available under the WebStats control panel.
Your new control panel is called WebSiteOS. We have instructions for logging into it, as well as instructions for what is available to manage your account.
Because FTP users behave somewhat differently on this server architecture than they did on the previous servers, we were not able to add your FTP users for you. All content stored in user directories has been moved into the private directory in a directory called users with an indvidual directory for each user you had defined. Please see our instructions for adding ftp users, if you wish to enable your users again.
SSH access has been turned off by default for all accounts. You can enable this as needed by following our ssh instructions.
We have step-by-step instructions for changing your password.
You can read the documents:
No, we have discontinued use of temporary hostnames for our Unix hosting accounts. You can still view your site prior to DNS, just see our instructions on how to view your site.
