Forwarding Your Mail

Unfortunately, you can ONLY use these instructions if you have one of our Basic Dial up or Individual, Enthusiast, or SOHO DSL accounts! If you have one of our Business Dial-up or Small Office DSL accounts, please talk to your Account Manager, 503-646-8400 about setting up forwarding for your mail. Thanks!

Step by Step Instructions

First, Create the Forward File

Open a Text Editor (NotePad on Windows Systems, SimpleText on Macs, and the editor of your choice for Linux). Create a new file and put a single line with the email box you want your mail forwarded to. For example:

mymail@hotmail.com

If you'd like to send email to more than address, just include the other addresses separated by a comma. If you'd like to leave yourself a copy of the message include your \<email username> at the beginning of the list. For example:
\mymail, mymail@hotmail.com, joe@joe-user.net

Save the file as: .forward (on Windows systems you have to save it as forward.txt and use the rename command in your FTP program after uploading it).

Exit the text editor; you are ready to upload the file

Second, Upload it into your Home Directory

Upload with an FTP program

To upload the forward file, use your favorite FTP program (Recommended FTP programs). The specific instructions vary from program to program, but these are the steps to upload your forward file to your home directory.

1. Open your FTP program
2. For the host name or server name use: users.easystreet.com
3. Leave the path field blank.
4. In the username and password fields, use your dial up or DSL account username and password
5. Click Connect.
6. Our server will automatically connect you to your home directory.
7. Use the commands in your FTP client to transfer the .forward file from your computer to this directory.
   (If you are using windows, and called the file forward.txt use your FTP program's rename to call it .forward after it is uploaded.
8. You're done! Disconnect.

Upload with Internet Explorer

You can also use Internet Explorer 5 or later to upload your .forward file.

1. Open Internet Explorer (version 5 or later)
2. In the address bar, put in the following address (remember to replace the words username and password with your EasyStreet username and password):
   ftp://username:password@users.easystreet.com
   then hit enter (or return).
3. Once you are connected to our server, drag your forward.txt file into the Explorer window.
4. Then, right-click on name forward.txt and choose rename. Change the name of the file to .forward
5. You're done! Close your browser window.

Now your mail will forward to the email address you specified in the .forward file.
