EasyStreet Email Server Limits |
The EasyStreet mail server restricts incoming and outgoing messages to 10MB. (Our fellow ISPs typically have 2MB or 5MB restrictions.) If you need to send large files, try using a compression program such as WinZip or Stuffit to reduce the file size. To send messages larger than 10MB to anyone with an email address, see the MagicVortex service at http://www.magicvortex.com.
The maximum size for a mailbox is 100MB. This is a hard limit. Messages will bounce once this limit is reached.
Messages with the following types of attachments are bounced by our mail server. These attachment types are known to harbor viruses and carry other worm programs.
.bat .cmd .cpl .exe .hta .hlp .htr .htw .ida .idq .js .jsc .jse .lnk
.ocx .pif .reg .scr .sct .shb .shs .vbs .vbe .vba .msc .msi .msp .mst .nws
.vxd .wse .wsc .wsf .wsh
Caution: We allow potentially dangerous .com, .eml and .dll files to be delivered through our mail system, we strongly recommend that you use an anti-virus program, and keep it up to date.
If you have a file with one of the extensions listed above and you would like to send it in email we recommend using WinZip or Stuffit to compress the file and rename the extension before you attach it to your email.
If you don't have file compression software handy, and it is a small attachment (much less than 1 MB), you can rename the file with a different extension. It is important to include instructions in the body of the email you are sending to change the name of the file back to what it was before you renamed it.
In addition, due to the MyDoom worm and its variants, we are blackholing (no bounce is provided) messages containing .zip attachments with any of the following in the attachment filename. For example, messages with attachment filenames of 'text.zip' or 'plaintext.zip' are blackholed.
attach, bill, body, card, data, details, doc, document, document_all, file,
info, information, jokes, list, mails, mail2, letter, me, message, more,
moreinfo, part2, paypal, photo, posting, price, price2, price_new, product,
ps, ranking, readme, screensaver, shower. story, stuff, swimmingpool, talk,
test, text, textdocument, textfile, unfolds, webcam
If you are using Outlook, and are getting email, but can't get the attachment you may be having problems with the way your email program is encoding and decoding your the attachment. See the MicroSoft Windows knowledgebase for more information.
As part of our attempt to deal with the massive flood of spam that hits our mail servers each day, we block email with the following characteristics at our mail server:
Subject: university diplomas (and variations)
10 or more consecutive spaces in the Subject
To: *@public.com
Subject: work from home
Subject: f**k
Currently our content filter technology does not allow for individual rule sets. We do not believe that we can craft a single rule set common to all of our users that would not filter some legitimate mail. We can filter some obvious spam but this is a small portion of the total. Luckily there is now anti-spam software available that you can use.
For more information about what we do to try to prevent spam from hitting your mailbox, see our Fighting Spam FAQ
